You've got a great idea for a general education course! Now what? Follow the steps below to learn how a course proposal goes from being an idea into a course in the University of Arizona Catalog!

STEP ONE
Share your idea! Talk to your Department Head and Academic Dean about proposing a general education course. We are accepting general education course proposals for modified AND brand new courses; however, proposers should have departmental and college approval before beginning the submission process.
STEP TWO
Complete the Quick Start minicourse. Quick Start provides an introduction to the goals of the General Education program and courses as well as support for successfully designing a course for review.

STEP THREE
Prepare your materials, including the updated General Education proposal form and a syllabus for your course.
STEP FOUR
Submit your course proposal and syllabus to the University-wide General Education Committee (UWGEC). You might need to modify some elements of your proposal or syllabus, but these modifications are all part of the process to make sure that your course aligns with the learning outcomes and goals of the general education curriculum.

STEP FIVE
Work with Curricular Affairs to align your materials with University standards. Just like with UWGEC, you might have to make a few changes to your materials to make sure that the course is ready for the Catalog!
STEP SIX
After UWGEC and Curricular Affairs approvals, your course is now ready for the Catalog! Congratulations!
