The University-wide General Education Committee (UWGEC) is charged with the review and approval of all curriculum changes in general education and success courses across the University, assessment of the General Education program, and disseminating General Education information to the campus community and its partners. Through these actions, UWGEC helps to ensure that every undergraduate student can attain fundamental skills and broad-based knowledge complementing their chosen program of study.

All instruction and curriculum action items approved by UWGEC are forwarded to the Undergraduate Council for review and submission to the Faculty Senate for approval. The UWGEC Chair reports to and serves on the Undergraduate Council.

Committee Role

The UWGEC's mission, as authorized by the Faculty Senate, is to review and approve all courses that satisfy General Education Requirements, periodically assess existing courses, make recommendations on policies related to General Education, and disseminate information about General Education to the campus community.  In addition, effective Fall 2010, UWGEC became responsible for the review and approval of all Success Courses
