Call for UNIV Instructors

March 30, 2022

The Office of General Education is excited to invite applications from qualified candidates for two teaching opportunities. Multiple part-time Instructors for UNIV 101 for fall 2022 (open to current qualified UA faculty, staff, and administrators only) and multiple full-time Assistant Professors of Practice for UNIV Courses. Please see the descriptions below.

Instructors for UNIV 101 - Introduction to the General Education Experience

As you may know, UNIV 101 is a 1-unit course that all first-year students will take as a part of the new General Education curriculum at UA. This course provides a foundation for General Education to help students develop an understanding of the purpose, value, and structure of General Education at UA while practicing the skill of reflection as a part of the learning process. Students will also begin the initial stages of working on their Gen Ed learning ePortfolio, a tool that they will use throughout their Gen Ed studies.

The job description for the UNIV 101 Instructor position can be found here. If you would like to be considered, please complete this application form by Friday, April 1. To complete the application, you will need to upload a cover letter, your resume/CV, and be able to provide preliminary details about your availability in the fall. Candidates must have a minimum of an earned Master’s degree and be at least 0.5 FTE in exempt, benefits-eligible positions. Selected instructors will receive an Other Professional Services stipend of $1,500 per section (for a total of $3,000 for teaching two sections, contingent upon enrollment). Led by a team of full-time faculty, instructors selected can expect to be in class 50 minutes a week per section, hold office hours or be available by appointment, and provide feedback and grading to students.

Assistant Professor of Practice (multiple positions)

The primary teaching assignments for these positions will be UNIV 101 (Introduction to the General Education Experience) and UNIV 301 (General Education ePortfolio), two one-unit courses that bookend the General Education program for students at the University of Arizona. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the Assistant Professors of Practice will provide support for a team of instructors also teaching UNIV 101 and UNIV 301 on a part-time basis and will work with the full-time instructional team and course directors to update the curriculum for the two pre-designed courses.

The complete job description and application information for the Assistant Professors of Practice can be found here.

We hope that you will consider applying and forwarding this invitation to colleagues who may have missed the announcement.
